... und ich traute meinen Augen kaum. Mein Secret Pal hat sich selbst übertroffen und mir das tollste Strickbuch geschenkt, dass ich in letzter Zeit gesehen habe: Knitting Nature von Norah Gaughn. Auf das Buch hatte ich schon lange ein Auge geworfen und nun ist es meins! Danke, liebe Secret Pal. Du bist die Beste!

Aus meinem Secret-Pal-Päckchen habe ich am Wochenende gleich ein Projekt fertiggestellt. Das Bead Soup Bracelet (von Earth Faire) war mein erstes Strickproject mit vielen Perlen. Es ist flach gestrickt und ging super schnell. Als Verschluss sind eine kleine Öse und ein Federverschluss angenäht. Das Armband hatte die Tendenz sich zu verdrehen. Das habe ich einfach genutzt und habe es noch ein wenig weiter verdreht und dann geschlossen. Nun sieht es aus wie eine Röhre. Die Perlenmischung ist irre und der Effekt wirklich interessant.

The first thing that called to me from my wonderful Secret Pal package was the Bead Soup Bracelet (from Earth Faire). It's been my first real knitting project with beads and it worked up really fast. Its a flat garter stitch stripe with beads worked into the knitting on the wrong side. It's closed with a spring clasp. The fabric had the tendency to twist which I took advantage of and added just a few more twists before closing the bracelet. Now it pretty much looks tubular. I think it's really neat and you cannot tell it's knitted at all! I love the different beads and the random effect they make.

Our lovely and caring Secret Pal 8 hostess Alison asked us to answer some questions to get to know us better. Well, here you are:

1) What is your favorite season of the year?
I really couldn't say. Every season has its up- and down-sides. In generally I like spring and autumn because the climate is usually temperate, which I really appreciate. And both seasons are great for going on vacation, because most places are not quite as crowded yet/anymore.

2) Where is your favorite vacation spot?
My perfect vacation country is France. It has everything from beaches to mountains to everything in between. I love Paris and seeing as I'm taking French classes it's a really good place to practice

3) If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be?
Mhm, well, do I have to decide? If money wasn't an issue I would probably go to Japan for a bit longer. It's such a fascinating country.

4) If you could pick any job, and be paid well, what would it be?
Gosh, Alison is really not playing fair, isn't she?! I think it's not so much about which job I would choose but the company and the people I would like to work with.

5) If you were going on vacation for 1 week, and had to take ONLY one project with you, what would it be?
I would definitely take some large lace project with me. A Niebling pattern maybe or something from Heirloom Knitting.

6) If you won a shopping spree to your favorite Yarn shop, what would you get??
I do not have a favourite yarn shop per se. But if I had the money I would definitely mail order some Euroflax linen yarn, wich comes in lovely colors but the prices are just way out of my price range, no matter what a great quality the yarn may be.

Heute ist ein dickes Päckchen von meiner Secret Pal aus England angekommen, yay Ich bin total von den Socken von dem Inhalt. Also, ganz genau waren drin

• ein niedliches Jutetäschen mit einem Kit von Curious Yarns. Es enthält 50 g Tussah Seide in einem traumhaften Türkisblau, passende Perlen und die Anleitung wie man aus beidem ein Täschchen strickt. Klasse!


• 2 Knäuel à 100 g eines sehr schönen beerenfarbenen handgefärbten Garns ohne Ursprungsangabe. Dem Glanz nach zu urteilen ist Seide drin. Es ist von der Stärke her etwas dicker als 4-fädiges Strumpfgarn.


• ein Kit zum Stricken lustiger "Ducky Dew Socks". Es enthält 150 g schönes blaues Merinogarn von Louet Sales und jeweils genug farbiges Garn für das Einstricken des Entchens sowie Perlen.


• 3 Stück wunderbarer Aromatherapie Seife


• ein absolut irres Kit zu Stricken eines Perlenarmbandes von Earth Faire. Es enthält eine wilde Perlenmischung und ich bin schon ganz gespannt das zu probieren.


• das Buch Simple Chic von Jil Eaton, grundsätzlich ein Einsteigerbuch mit vielen Erläuterungn zum Stricken und Basiserklärungen aber auch total süßen Anleitungen für dies und das. Niedlich illustriert ist es auch. Bei so was schlägt mein notorisches Sammlerherz immer höher ;o)

Was kann ich sagen außer WOW. VIELEN DANK, liebe secret pal.

Today I picked up a large parcel from England, the antsyly awaited first present from my secret pal. I was momentarily speechless when I got a look at all the goodness inside.

• First of all I noticed a cute little bag containing 50 grams of lovely turquoise tussah silk, beads and the pattern to make a little bag out of it.


• Then there were 2 skeins of berry coloured sports weight yarn, no label on this one, that has to contain silk or something going by the sheen


• A funny sock knitting kit "Ducky Dew Socks" with three skeins of wonderfully soft Louet Sales Merino yarn and some small amounts of yarn for the intarsia part of the little duck and beads to complete the set.


• 3 little bars of very pleasent aromatherapy soap


• A crazy bead-knitting kit to do a bracelet from Earth Faire which I am already fingering in fascination. I really have to do this one as soon as possible.


• The book Simple Chic by Jil Eaton which is basicly a beginners book but it is so nicely done with cute illustrations and funny patterns, it's really neat.

I don't know what to say besides *wow*. Not very eloquent, I realize. THANK YOU SO MUCH, secret pal. I loved the whole package.

Okay, here we go with the secret pal Q&A.

1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely not like?
I love natural materials, be it wool, silk, linen, cotton. I'm a sucker for tweed and variegated yarns of any kind. I don't particularily go for glitzy, fuzzy, slick novelty stuff, tape yarn or squeaky polyacryl.

2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
I have my circular needles ordered by size in zip-lock bags stored in a ring binder. My dpns and hooks reside in a little case originally intended for cosmetic stuff.

3. How long have you been knitting? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?
I've been knitting practically all my life. I cannot remember when I learned, maybe when I was 7 or 8? That would add up to nearly 20 years a knitter now, wow.
As for skill levels, I don't believe in any of these labels. If you can knit and purl you can do anything, assuming you are motivated and don't shy from a bit of research and good old trial and error. Other people might consider me an advanced knitter, looking at my projects.

4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
Yes, it's at amazon.de.

5. What's your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.)
I like vanilla, light flowery scents, green tea, lavender if it's not too heavy.

6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?
Guilty as charged I do love M&M's Peanut Butter. Mean thing is, they are not distributed in Germany, or Europe for that matter. How do I know? Well, I wrote a letter to Mars Inc, of course. As for the rest, well, keep an eye on your gummy bear stash, or it's gone faster than you can blink And did you say you've got dark chocolate anywhere?!

7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?
I do cross stitch from time to time, got into spinning some time ago and of course am hooked now and on the odd occasion that the muse strikes I even grab a crochet hook and do some crochet. I'm not of a crocheter, though.

8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
I like the singer/songwriter kind of music. Take Tori Amos or Jack Johnson for an example. On the other hand I can appreciate a good Garth Brooks album or some well done rock. On the readio I usually listen to my favourite classical station. I can play MP3s and even own a little iPod Shuffle.

9. What's your favorite color? Or--do you have a color family/season/palette you prefer? Any colors you just can't stand?
I am a "cool summer" girl. That means everything I wear has to have a blueish undertone, from cool pinks and reds, purples, to all kinds of blues, turquoise and a few rare green tones. I really can't pull off any yellow, orange and most the natural earthy colours. You so don't want to see me in olive green or anything like that, I swear.

10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
Married, no kids, no pets. Or do the dust bunnies count?!

11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?
Yes to the first three items. Not sure about the ponchos. I haven't had one since I was a little kid.

12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
I love knitting lace shawls. They are so rewarding, beautiful and size doesn't matter. Socks are a good thing, too.

13. What are you knitting right now?
More than one pair of socks, a lace shawl, a summer raglan t-shirt for me and there is still an unfished Rogue waiting to get done. I probably forgot something or other here.

14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?
I certainly do.

15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
Thumbs up for circs. They are a fabulous invention. I choose material according to the yarn and the project I'm working on. Slippery yarn and Addi Turbos are a nightmarish combination, in my experience.

16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?
Nope. But I've got a niddy-noddy and a nostepinne.

17. How did you learn to knit?
My non-knitting grandma taught me, because I was getting on her nerves while being ill or spending holidays with her - I can't really remember anymore. Thing I know is, though, I had never seen this grandma knit anything in my whole life but she obviously knew how to do it, since she managed to teach me. My paternal grandma was - and still is - always whipping up some knitted thingie, only, she didn't have the patience to teach anyone. She would drive you nuts with the fast speech and the funky explanations

18. How old is your oldest UFO?
Oh well, there is still this bouclé sweater, waiting for some sleeves. Is it 2 years old, or going on 3? I really can't tell.

19. What is your favorite holiday?
Every holiday is a good holiday, as long as it's getting me a day off from work

20. Is there anything that you collect?
I'm not a collector per se, but I do have an little assortment of drop spindles accumulated by now. And does yarn count? Oh, and what about the knitting and handcrafts books taking up shelf after shelf? Yeah, well, you know how it is...

21. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?
I've got Interweave Knits and Spin-Off. I would dearly love to get my hands on a skein of Koigu sock yarn or some Cherry Tree Hill sock or lace weight yarn.

22. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn?
I learn as I go along. Projects are chosen for their appeal not the technique used or the skill level given. I've only taken one knitting class in my life so far and that was because I wanted to meet the infamous Horst Schultz in real life.

23. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?
Yes, yes, yes! And can I say yes? My shoe size is a european size 42 (28 cm long). My feet are a bit on the narrow side considering the size but I usually can't wear short row heels. They are too tight across the span.

24. When is your birthday? (mm/dd)
February 11th

Heute habe ich das dritte Päckchen von meiner Wollfee von der Packstation geholt. Ich war schon so gespannt! Und es war wieder wunderbar. Janin - jetzt weiß ich nun auch wer meine Wollfee war - hat mir einen schönen luftigen Schal in einem kuscheligen Garn gestrickt, der genau richtig ist für den Frühling, der sich noch nicht so ganz entscheiden kann. Und ich wollte mir selber schon einen solchen Schal stricken, in wollweiß und in einem schlichten Lochmuster. Woher wusstet Du das bloß Dazu gab es Futter für die Bibliothek, super, vor allem das Rowan Heft! Klasse Schoki war auch drin, von denen eine Tafel gerade geöffnet neben mir liegt und bißchen was zum entspannen in der Badewanne. Vielen lieben Dank Wollfee! Es hat Spaß gemacht.

Heute habe ich von der Packstation mein zweites Wollfeepäckchen abgeholt. freu Farblich lautete das Thema meiner Wollfee blau - auf der ganzen Linie. Drin waren kuschelige blaue Socken (passen perferkt und zieren schon meine Füße), ein Knäuel Meilenweit Magico in einem zauberhaften wasserblau, total niedliche Glasuntersetzer und eine blaue Kerze sammt Glas, damit nichts anbrennt. Vielen Dank liebe Wollfee!!! Auch wenn ich nicht die geringste Ahnung habe, wer Du bist, trotz der Hinweise Ich versuche mich gerade mal durch alle Blogs der Wollfee 3 durchzuklicken, bin aber noch nicht auf Dich gestoßen. Foto wird nachgereicht. Im Moment läßt mich mein Bildbearbeitungsprogramm im Stich und ich kann das Foto nicht auf webtaugliche Größe reduzieren.

Nachtrag: Habe ein neues Bildbearbeitungsprogramm gefunden et voilà!

Ich habe lange keinen Eintrag mehr gemacht. Leider musste ich zwischendurch ins Krankenhaus und dann hatte ich lange keinen Nerv fürs bloggen. Hier nun ein Foto des Inhalts meines ersten Päckchens meiner geheimen Wollfee. Ich habe einen sehr schönen Jahresplaner, total süße Maschenmarkierer und leckere Trüffel bekommen. Ein Dankeschön an meine Wollfee

Ein paar Hinweise für meine Wollfee:

1. Bist Du ein Woll-Snob (Bevorzugst Du Edel- und Naturfasern)? Meidest Du Billigwolle aus dem Kaufhaus? Oder ist Dir das egal?
Das kommt immer darauf an, welchem Zweck das fertige Objekt dienen soll. Ich mag schönes Garn, reine Wolle oder Gemische mit Seide schon gern, aber nicht für alles eignet sich Wolle. Vor allem wenn es pflegeleicht sein soll, greife ich gerne zu superwash oder Gemischen. Im Moment finde ich dieses dicke, leichte Garn mit relativ viel Acryl ziemlich gut.

2. Spinnst Du? Häkelst Du?
Beides. Häkeln gehört allerdings nicht zu meinen Leidenschaften. Ich kann es nicht besonders gut und es ist einfach nicht besonders flexibel. Sieht immer alles aus wie Topflappen

3. Hast Du irgendwelche Allergien? (Rauch, Tiere, Fasern, Parfüm, etc)
Keine Allergien, aber als Nichtraucher kann ich verqualmte Räume oder Sachen nicht leiden.

4. Wie lange strickst Du schon?
Kann mich nicht mehr erinnern, so lange ist das schon her. Ich denke ich habe es so mit 6 oder 7 gelernt.

5. Hast Du eine Amazon Wunschliste?
Ja, die müsste aber mal wieder aktualisiert werden.

6. Was ist Dein Lieblingsduft= (für Kerzen, Badeprodukte, etc)
Ich mag leichte Düfte, keine schweren süßen Blütendüfte oder ähnliches.

7. Bist Du eine Naschkatze?
Ähm, was soll ich sagen ... erwischt. Sperrt mal jemand die Gummibärchen weg bitte?!

8. Welche anderen Handarbeiten oder Selbstmach-Dinge tust Du noch gern?
Immer mal wieder ganz unterschiedliche Sachen. Kreuzstich mich ich ganz garn. Ich probier aber auch so vieles aus, wenigstens ein mal. Aber im Moment bin ich mit Handarbeiten ganz gut beschäftigt.

9. Was für Musik hörst Du gern? Spielt Dein Rechner / Deine Anlage MP3s ab? (falls Deine Wollfee Dir eine CD zusammenstellen möchte)
MP3s sind kein Problem. Ich höre alles mögliche gern, je nach Stimmung häufig singer/songwriter sachen, z.B. tori amos, alanis morisette, jack johnson aber auch mainstream wie cher, anastacia oder die etwas alternative, rockige Richtung wie Pink, The Rasmus, Avril Lavigne oder Red Hot Chili Peppers. Und nebenbei gerne auch Jazz und Swing. Ist ziemlich querbeet, ich weiß.

10. Welches sind Deine Lieblingsfarben? Oder hast Du einen Farb-/Jahreszeiten-Typ den Du bevorzugst?
Ich bin ein "Kühler Sommer", ergo kann ich alles tragen was blaustichig ist, d.h. natürlich blaus, lilas, pinks, petrol, grautöne, wollweiß. Bloß nichts was in Richtung gelb abwandert und keine erdfarben.

11. Wie ist Dein Familienstand?
Verheiratet seit diesem Sommer, keine Kinder.

12. Hast Du Tiere?
Nein, die gehören für mich nicht in eine Großstadtwohnung.

13. Mit welchem/n Garn/en strickst Du am Liebsten?
Nicht zu dick, nicht zu dünn. Nadelstärke 4 finde ich immer ganz angenehm. Glatt oder knubbelig ist egal. Oder für meine Kunststrickleidenschaft hauchzarte Wollgarne, am besten selbstgesponnen und farbig meliert, yummy

14. Welche Garne magst Du auf gar keinen Fall?
Puschelige Effektgarne, mit Glitzer und Zeugs, die nur aus Chemie bestehen. Irx.

15. Was sind Deine momentanen Strick-Macken?
Das ist realtiv konstant: Lace und Zöpfe. Wenn ich mal die Zeit finde, will ich unbedingt mal ein größeres Fair Isle Stück stricken.

16. Was strickst Du am Liebsten?
Dreieckstücher. Und kleine Sachen wie Socken, Handschuhe, etc. Schals sind mir meistens zu langweilig.

17. Was strickst Du zurzeit?
Ähm, naja, das liegt gerade für Weihnachten noch einiges angefangen rum. Eine Liste wäre an dieser Stelle zu deprimierend.

18. Trägt Du Deine selbst gestrickten Sachen oder verschenkst Du sie lieber?
Größere Sachen wie Pullover mache ich meistens für mich. Kleine Dinge verschenke ich gerne. Aber ich achte immer drauf, ob ich glaube, dass die Beschenkten Handgearbeitetes auch zu schätzen wissen.

19. Bevorzugst Du Stab- oder Rundstricknadeln?
Rundstricknadeln sind meiner Ansicht einer der genialsten Erfindungen überhaupt. Wie würde ich sonst so große Kunststricksachen hinkriegen?!

20. Bambus, Aluminium, Plastik?
Auch hier muss ich sagen, es kommt drauf an. Je nach Material bietet sich mal das eine mal das andere an.

21. Strickst Du Socken?
Aber klar doch. Ringelsockengarn steht auf meiner Liste der besten Erfindungen des Jahrhunderts ziemlich weit oben.

22. Wie hast Du das Stricken gelernt?
Von meiner Oma. Kann mich nicht mehr dran erinnern wie alt ich war.

23. Wie alt ist Dein ältestes UFO?
Auch hier gilt: hüllen wir den Mantel des Schweigens drüber

24. Hast Du eine Lieblingsfernsehserie ?
Alles wo CSI draufsteht, Crossing Jordan und alles aus dem Star Trek Universum.

25. Welches ist Dein liebster Feiertag?
Mhm, Feiertage sind alle schön.

26. Gibt es irgendetwas, das Du sammelst?
Strickbücher, zumindest wenn man danach geht wie mein Bücherregal aussieht
