Sooza's Knitting Stuff

 
Pünktlich zum Wochenende ist jede Menge Lesestoff bei mir eingetroffen. Das Piecework Magazine musste ich wegen des Orenburg Features allein schon haben. Die Handwoven habe ich einfach mal Interesse halber mitbestellt. Beide Hefte habe ich durchgeblättert und finde sie sehr interessant. Das Sock Innovation-Buch brauchte etwas länger. Erst war ich nicht ganz überzeugt, dass ich dieses Sockenbuch nun auch noch brauche und als ich mich dann selbst überzeugt hatte, war es bei Amazon nicht mehr lieferbar. War wahrscheinlich ob der großen Nachfrage gleich mal ausverkauft. Innerhalb von 7 Wochen hat Tante Amazon es dann doch rangeschafft bekommen.

Just in time for a lazy weekend the postal services brought new reading material to my doorstep. The Piecework magazine I had to have for the Orenburg Lace feature alone. I don't - yet - weave but have been interested in the Handwoven for a while now and this way postage from the UK at least wasn't spent on one lonely magazine. I've only skimmed through the mags so far but both seem promising. The Sock Innovation book by Cookie A took took quite a while to get here. When the book came first came out I wasn't quite convinced that I needed it in my bookshelf. Yeah well, after leaving through it at a knitting meeting I finally decided it would be worth its money but alas, it was out of stock on Amazon.de. Probably it's been such a hit in the world wide knitting community. In the end it took Amazon 7 weeks to get hold of a copy for me.

You know, it's always such a nice surprise to find something other than invoices and advertising stuff in your mailbox. Today Interweave Knits' latest issue fell right into my hands amongst other stuff. As always I was pretty excited and couldn't wait to browse through the mag for the first time. So I made myself a nice cup of coffee, magazine in hand, grabbed the baby, who was crying for mummy's milk and sat down on our immensely comfy sofa.
I really enjoyed the first 30 pages and was anxious to see which patterns they had come up with this time. But what do they tell you about not getting your hopes up too high? Yeah, well, they were right. Does anyone else find the patterns in this issue bland, uninspired and completely unwearable?! I mean please, what's with the skirts, you people?! I am of the opinion that you cannot in good conscience wear a hand-knitted skirt until you are barely 5'5'' tall and as skinny as a beanstalk.
And what's the issue with cropped, half-buttoned cardigans?! Didn't knit them in the right size and had to fudge or what?! Jeesh, apart from two lace stoles there is not one single pattern that I would be interested in knitting.
I kind of like the Flutter Sleeve Cardigan because of its clever shaping but it would probably make me look like my own grandmother. And the Printed Silk Cardigan has its appeal, too. But I get all kinds of suspicious when a model holds the front of a cardigan closed. Can't help thinking that in reality the edges probably roll and the front will gape wide open. And I stress again: Why the half-buttoned thing?!

Pünktlich zum Nikolaus kam mein Wichtelpaket von Annekatrin aus Leipzig bei mir. Drin waren ein paar super Socken, in knalligstem pink bestens geeignet gegen tristes Winterwetter und heute in meinen Winterboots schon auf Alltagstauglichkeit getestet. An dieser Stelle noch mal ein Dankeschön an Annekatrin. Es hat Spaß gemacht.

Und noch etwas kam pünktlich zum Nikolaustag mit der Post - das Winterheft der
Interweave Knits. Sind wieder schöne Sachen drin. Und mit meinem Abo scheint nach anfänglichen Schwierigkeiten auch alles in Ordnung zu sein. freu

Ich bin trotz aller guten Vorsätze - schon mal wieder - Opfer meiner Woll- und Handarbeitssucht geworden. Naja, was sonst ist neu?! Letzte Woche trudelte die aktuelle Vogue Knitting International bei mir ein, als Einzelheft bestellt bei Angelyarns.com und superschnell erhalten. Es sind, finde ich, ganz tolle Sachen drin in dieser Ausgabe, deshalb habe ich sie mir extra bestellt. Ich hatte vor Jahren mal ein Abo, aber dann gefiel mir die Zeitschrift nicht mehr so gut. Die Modelle waren langweilig und altmodisch.

Gegen Rowan hatte ich mich auch lange Zeit gewehrt, aber das Magazin gefiel mir doch so gut, dass ich erst mal ein Sonderangebot wahrgenommen habe (4 alte Hefte zum Preis von 9,99 Pfund). Von den Heften ist bisher eins angekommen. Es ist Heft 34, in dem auch die Anleitung für den Birch-Shawl drin ist. Die Truhe ist übrigens niegelnagelneu von IKEA und dient als Wolllager (eines von vielen ). Der Vorschlag für die Truhe als Wollkiste kam im Übrigen von meinem lieben Mann.

Naja, und dann bin ich doch tatsächlich Mitglied im Rowan-Club geworden bin. Für den Jahresbeitrag von 25 Pfund gibt es 2 Magazine und als Prämie gabs noch 2 Knäuel Kid Silk Haze und die Anleitung für einen Schal dazu! Wer würde da widerstehen wollen?! Als Farbe für meine Prämie habe ich mir Trance ausgesucht. Oh man ist DAS ein tolles Garn. schmelz In Deutschland kostet die Haze 13 Euro pro 25g-Knäuel. Wenn ich dann noch zwei Magazine à 18,30 Euro in Dtl. bestellt hätte, wäre ich auf über 65 Euro Bestellwert gekommen. So waren es "gerade mal" 37 Euro.
