Sooza's Knitting Stuff

Nächsten Samstag steht uns ein großes Ereignis ins Haus. Unsere Tochter wird getauft. Passend zum Ereignis hat meine Mutter bereits vor einiger Zeit meines und meiner Schwester altes Taufkleid aus der Mottenkiste geholt. Besonders apart sind der im typischen 70er-Jahre-Stil bestickte Polyester-Stoff des Kleides, wie im Detail zu sehen, und die Farbe. Weiß war damals offenbar überhaupt nicht in Mode. Im Original ist das Kleid sehr lang, was wahrscheinlich der Tatsache geschuldet ist, dass Kinder normalerweise recht früh getauft werden und man sie zu dem Zeitpunkt noch ständig rumträgt. Unsere Tochter ist nun aber schon neuneinhalb Monate alt, krabbelt fleißig und stellt sich mit Hilfe von Gegenständen auf und läuft daran entlang und ich habe nicht vor, sie in der Kirche anzubinden. Also bedurfte es einer Änderung. Eine Wäsche und ein paar Handgriffe mit Bügeleisen und Nähmaschine später passt das Kleid nun wie angegossen und ist bereit für den großen Tag.

Next Saturday will be a big day for our baby girl. She is going to be baptized. My mom dug into the old storage closet and produced the christening robe me and my sister wore when we were both baptized. It's original 70s style both in pattern and material but still very lovely and not too frou frou. Although I find the robe awfully long which might be due to the fact that at the time children were baptized early when they were still carried around and did not already crawl around by themselves. Well, our nine and a half months old daughter is crawling around like a whirlwind, standing up with help of any available furniture and walking along said furniture and I don't plan on putting a leash on her while in church. No question, the dress had to be shortened for practicality's sake. After a trip through the washer, a meeting with a flat iron and with my sewing machine it is a perfect fit. Now it's waiting for the big day.

Von der Strickfront gibt es nicht viel Neues zu zeigen oder zu berichten. Ein paar Jaywalker Socken trocknen schon seit zwei Tagen vor sich hin und können hoffentlich auch bald fotografiert werden. Und ein weiteres Paar Socken nähert sich seiner Fertigstellung.

Dafür habe ich gestern mal wieder die Nähmaschine angeworfen und aus den Stoffresten des Stubenwagens und der Gardine noch schnell ein paar Kissenbezüge für den Korbstuhl genäht. Das ist nun keine wahnsinnig kreative Leistung und das Ganze war auch innerhalb einer Stunde erledigt, aber die simplen weißen Ikea-Kissen machen nun doch schon gleich viel mehr her

Nothing new on the knitting front, I'm afraid. A pair of Jaywalker socks is currently drying in the bathroom and will hopefully be ready to being photographed some time soon. And another pair of socks is nearing its completion.

But I've reved my sewing machine again and used some left-over fabric from the curtains and baby bassinet to whip up some pillow covers. Well, it's not exactly rocket science and only took about an hour or so but the bland Ikea cushions look like so much more all of a sudden

Bei dieser Affenhitze habe ich mich heute in unser Arbeitszimmer verkrochen (das weist Richtung Norden) und habe endlich den Bezug und den Himmel für unseren geerbten Stubenwagen fertig genäht. Passend dazu habe ich auch noch eine Übergardine gezaubert. Die ist mit 2,40 x 1,60 m aber etwas groß, um irgendwie auf ein Foto zu passen. Nicht so super bei dieser Wärme war die Tatsache, dass man beim Schneidern ja auch ständig irgendwelche Kanten und Nähte Bügeln muss, am besten so richtig heiß mit Dampf. schwitz

Im Hintergrund kann man auch die wunderbare neue Wandfarbe unseres Kinderzimmers sehen. Die Maler waren am Dienstag da und nun haben wir einen Traum in flieder und lila

The only room that stays nice and cool during hot days like these is our office, where not only lots of books and our computers reside but also my sturdy sewing machine. So I took that as a sign and finally completed the lining and canopy for our lovely vintage bassinet. In addition to that I made matching curtain to keep the light out. The curtain does not exactly lend itself to be photographed with its huge dimensions of 2.4 x 1.6 meters. Not quite as relaxing was the simple fact that sewing involves lots of ironing, preferably very hot and with lots of steam sweating

In the background you can see the wonderful new wall color the painters put on two days ago. The baby's room is sporting lovely lilac and lavender walls now

Außnahmsweise gibt es mal nichts Gestricktes zu sehen heute, sondern etwas selbst Genähtes Habe ich mir auch noch das richtige Wetter ausgesucht, um ein langärmliges Shirt probezutragen. Brrrrrrr, ist das häßlich draußen. Das Muster ist einer der berühmt-berüchtigten Burda Fertigschnitte (Nr. 8376 Kombination). Der Stoff ist Viskosejersey, welcher es mir ob des wilden 70er Jahre Drucks und der irren Farben (dunkellila, veilchen, violet, petrol) auf einem Kreuzberger Wochenmarkt total angetan hatte. Die Farben im Foto sind leider ein bißchen flau, wegen der fehlenden Sonne heute. Es hat richtig Spaß gemacht, die Nähmaschine mal wieder zu entstauben und schon ewig verkramtes Wissen rund ums Nähen mal wieder hervorzuholen. Und das Ganze hat nur 4 bis 5 Stunden benötigt (das Zuschneiden, meine absolute Haßtätigkeit beim Schneidern, mal nicht mitgerechnet) und vom Materialwert vielleicht gerade mal 3 bis 4 Euro.

No knitted object to see here for a change but a self-tailored maternity shirt And obviously I chose just the right day to wear a long-sleeved shirt with this weather that - after loads of sunshine - has taken a turn for the worse. The pattern is from Burda (Nr. 8376 Coordinates) and the jersey fabric caught my eye at a farmer's market in Kreuzberg. The print is so 70ies and with this wild colors (dark plum, purple, violet, petrol) I just could not resist. Besides, it was a bargain for just 1 Euro per meter. In the picture the colors are a bit subdued, unfortunately. Tailoring this little thing took me maybe 4 to 5 hours (cutting the pieces, which I absolutely abhor, not included) and it was fun to dig out the sewing machine and old knowledge about sewing and dressmaking that hadn't been put into action for a while.
